Detroit Cathedral Welcomes the Archbishop for Patronal Feast

DETROIT, MI [DOM] – On the weekend of the Feast of the Holy Apostles Peter and Paul, June 28 and June 29, Ss. Peter and Paul Cathedral in Detroit, MI celebrated its Patronal Feast Day with His Eminence Archbishop Daniel of Chicago and the Midwest.

On June 28th, Great Vespers was celebrated and followed by a lenten potluck where the Archbishop gave a word about his recent journey to Alaska. He recounted his travels to the remote town of Kwethluk for the canonization of St. Olga of Alaska.

The following morning, Sunday, June 29, Archbishop Daniel presided over the Hierarchal Divine Liturgy at the Detroit Cathedral and was joined by Priest Esteban Vazquez, Priest Phillip Dage, Cathedral Dean, and Deacon Lazarus Der-Ghazarian. Just prior to Divine Liturgy, Archbishop Daniel ordained three men to the minor orders: Reader Raphael (Jesus), Reader Basil (William), and Reader Jacob.The Liturgy took on a particularly joyous tone with the hymns sung by the Cathedral choir.

Immediately following the Liturgy, the clergy along with faithful processed with Cross, icons, and candles through the neighborhood singing the Trisagion hymn in both English and Spanish while the bells rang out.

At the conclusion of the neighborhood procession through Southwest Detroit, the Parish Festival began. A delicious lunch was catered by a local Mexican Restaurant while musicians played live music for the festival attendees. Activities included a bounce house, face painting, basket raffles, ice cream and Festival T-shirt fundraisers for the Cathedral.
