CHICAGO, IL [DOM] – The Diocese of the Midwest saw two of their seminarians ordained this past week at the Diocesan Cathedral, Holy Trinity Cathedral, Chicago, IL. During the Great Feast of Theophany, His Eminence Archbishop Daniel, Archbishop of Chicago and the Diocese of the Midwest, presided over the divine services ordaining two students to the priesthood and deaconate, respectively.
On January 6, 2023, the feast of Theophany, the Archbishop was joined by Priest Alexander Koranda, Cathedral Dean, and Deacons Thomas Keith, Paul Garklavs, and Andrew Bender, for the celebration of Divine Liturgy. During the liturgy, Deacon Joseph Whittaker was ordained to the priesthood, and Subdeacon John York, was ordained to the deaconate. Priest Joseph is in his third year of seminary at St. Tikhon’s Theological Seminary, and Deacon John York is in his second year at the same seminary.
After the Prayer at the Ambo, the Great Blessing of Water took place.
Following Divine Liturgy, the Archbishop enjoyed lunch with the newly ordained and their families.
Fr. Joseph and Fr. John served the daily services at the Diocesan Cathedral following their ordination.
