CHICAGO, IL [DOM] – On Monday June 9, the Day of the Holy Spirit, was celebrated at the Diocesan Cathedral, Holy Trinity Cathedral, Chicago, IL, by His Eminence Archbishop Daniel of Chicago and the Midwest. This feast is a continuation of the altar feast of the Cathedral bringing together the clergy and faithful of the Chicago Deanery.
His Eminence was assisted by Archpriest Herman Kincaid, Chancellor, Priest Alexander Koranda, Cathedral Dean, Priest Esteban Vazques, Mitered Archpriest Vladimir Kovalchuk, Priest Nikolai Lochmatow, Priest John Kennerk, Priest Daniel Greeson, Priest Anthony Saunders, Priest Joseph Whittaker, Deacon Paul Garklavs, Deacon Nikola Tambur, and Deacon Timothy Heinbokel.
June 9th also marked the fifth anniversary of the repose for noted church musician, and St. Romanus Award recipient, John Sutko. Under the direction of Reader Philip Sokolov, a special choir was formed with singers that had a personal connection from throughout Chicagoland with Mr. Sutko. Throughout the service, compositions and arrangements of the late musician were sung.
A Cross Procession was held following the Divine Liturgy.
At the conclusion of the Divine Services, Fr. Herman offered a reflections on the gifts that God bestows upon his creation and how John was an example of such a great gift and how he shared it in many ways. Fr. Alexander, the grandson of John, offered gratitude to His Eminence an those gathered for offering such a memorial. The family of John sponsored a memorial meal in honor of the festive day, where pictures and musical works of the musicians career were displayed.
