HIS GRACE BISHOP DANIEL NOMINATED BY DIOCESAN ASSEMBLY AS NEXT BISHOP OF CHICAGO AND THE MIDWEST

BALTIMORE, MD [DOM] – At the conclusion of the 61st Diocesan Assembly of the Diocese of the Midwest, a Special Assembly was called by His Grace, Bishop Daniel, and chaired by His Beatitude, Metropolitan Tikhon, for the nomination of a candidate to fill the vacant see of Chicago and the Midwest.

An opening prayer was offered by His Beatitude with the singing of “O Heavenly King.” Metropolitan Tikhon then offer some remarks on the leadership of His Eminence, Archbishop Paul of blessed memory. His Beatitude then explained to the delegates the sacred responsibility the assembly has in nominating a candidate to the Holy Synod for election.

Archpriest Paul Jannakos, Chancellor of the Diocese of the Midwest, then read a letter from the Holy Synod describing the process of nomination from the Diocese of the Midwest, and the ultimate election by the Holy Synod of the Orthodox Church in America.

Metropolitan Tikhon then opened the floor for nominations, which was met with a call to nominate His Grace, Bishop Daniel, by acclamation as the sole candidate vetted by the Holy Synod. This was followed by thunderous acclamation from the assembly floor.

It was at that point that His Beatitude announced that the Diocese of the Midwest had nominated His Grace Bishop Daniel of Santa Rosa, Locum Tenens of the Diocese of the Midwest, as its twelfth hierarch.
