Upcoming Music Workshops in the DOM

DAYTON, OH/MINNEAPOLIS, MN [DOM] – Two musical workshops are being hosted on both the eastern and western part of the Diocese of the Midwest in the coming weeks. The workshops will be held on Saturday, November 19, at St. Paul the Apostle Church in Dayton, OH and St. Mary’s Orthodox Cathedral, Minneapolis, MN. These workshops have been made possible by the Diocesan St. Andrew of Crete Music Ministry.

St. Paul the Apostle Church in Dayton, OH

The workshop will focus on directors, children choirs, and choir rehearsals giving participants helpful insight and tools to bring back to their communities.  The two day retreat will be lead Archpriest Steven Kostoff will speak on psalmody and its use in Orthodox Church services, particularly in vespers.

The event will be held on Friday, November 18, and Saturday, November 19 at St. Paul the Apostle Church in Dayton, OH.

St. Mary’s Orthodox Cathedral, Minneapolis, MN
On November 19, join us at St. Mary’s Orthodox Cathedral (Minneapolis), for a Liturgical Music Workshop, from 1:00pm – 4:00pm. Katie Boardman, a Twin Cities based professional soprano and music educator (https://www.katieboardman.com/) and attendee of St. Mary’s Cathedral, will provide an educational session on vocal technique and choral singing, and will coach the assembled singers in a choral application session, directed and co-led by Zach Mandell, Music Director at St. Mary’s. This application session will focus on the liturgical chants of the Advent Season, and will be preceded by a short presentation on the various chants and “special melodies” that appear during Advent, their underlying principles, and thoughts in stichera-singing style.
